What our Key staff say …..

Tell us about your role?

I work as a tenancy support worker at Key, my role is to support people of all ages who are experiencing difficult times or potential homelessness. I support them to maximise their income by ensuring they are on the correct benefits, I also support with any underlying issues that are affecting their ability to obtain or maintain accommodation. We also work on resilience and skills, so individuals can deal with any future issues.

What’s the best thing about working at Key?

The ethos at Key is to help people help themselves, all the staff are passionate about what they do, going the extra mile when needed to make that all important difference to someone’s life. It’s knowing I can help people who are struggling to maintain their accommodation and being confident that I will get the support and direction I need from my manager. All the staff are very friendly and approachable and will go out of their way to help you if you need it. Knowing I can help and make a difference to someone’s life is extremely rewarding.

What is it like being a Tenancy Support Worker at Key?

No two days are the same, people’s worries and needs are as individual as they are, and you have to be ready to respond to whatever you are presented with.   We always use a person centred approach to supporting people, and when you are successful in helping people maintain their accommodation or move to permanent accommodation, it is a great feeling for both the client and for me as a support worker.

What advice would you give to someone interested in joining Key?

Go for it!! Apply to work here, if you’re not just looking for a job but looking to make a difference, this is the place to work.  At my interview, Key were not too concerned about my qualifications (although that can be helpful) and knowledge, as you can learn that, but Key were interested in me and my values, and how these would help the people I now support. I can honestly say that working for Key has been the best career move I have ever made. Not only do I enjoy my job, but other staff and management are all a pleasure to work with.

Top moment at Key?

When someone is really struggling and together we have turned things around, the relief they feel is so apparent, and the successes keep on happening week by week. Helping a lady win her Personal Independence Payment appeal and it being backdated, changing her life so dramatically, she was able to pay off all her debts and  live more independently without the  threat of eviction hanging over her head.
