On the final day of White Ribbon for 2024 we remember Liz
Key pays tribute to colleague and domestic abuse advocate Liz Stanton
As we do every year, Key Unlocking Futures, along with Progress Housing Group and Chorley and South Ribble borough councils, have been doing activities to make people aware of the White Ribbon campaign and the 16 Days of Action.
This has been running from 25 November – International Day for the Elimination of Violence Towards Women, through to 10 December – Human Rights Day.
We feel it is appropriate to end the 16 days of action this year with a tribute to our colleague Liz Stanton, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Liz managed the women's refuges in South Ribble and Chorley for over 20 years and advocated for causes close to her heart, including the white ribbon. White Ribbon is a campaign dedicated to ending violence towards women and girls.
Liz was passionate about many things. Her colleagues at the refuge she considered them to be her extended family equally as were the hundreds of women and children she supported throughout her long career. Liz cared deeply about them all, ensuring their safety was a priority.
Liz had a wicked sense of humour with an extraordinary turn of phrase. She was kind and caring, precisely the kind of person you would want to support you in challenging times.
Following Liz's passing, stepping into her role was challenging, with big shoes to fill. Claire Moxham, formerly Key's Supported Services Manager, is now managing Key's Domestic Abuse Services, continuing Liz's legacy and important work.
On this final day of White Ribbon, we ask you all to pledge, never to commit, condone, or remain silent about men's violence against women and we especially ask our men to get behind this campaign because 'It Starts with Men'.
