Response to the Freedom from Violence and Abuse Strategy

Key Unlocking Futures – Response to the Freedom from Violence and Abuse Strategy

Key Unlocking Futures welcomes the Uk Government’s December 2025 Freedom from Violence and Abuse: A Cross-Government Strategy to Build a Safer Society for Women and Girls. We are particularly pleased to see the strong emphasis on prevention, early intervention and relentless pursuit of perpetrators, alongside a clear commitment to ensuring that survivors can access effective support in a timely manner.

We continue to explore and digest and are looking forward to working with our commissioners and local and national partners to support the successful implementation of this new strategy.

Assistant Director of Key, Sarah Forshaw, says “It’s reassuring to see the strategy prioritise long-term prevention. As providers of Healthy Relationship programmes in schools, we know education is key to shaping safe futures. The strategy quite rightly underpins a whole-system response to VAWG. This is essential, with specialist services engaged and supported so victims and survivors can access the right help and support at the right time with improved access to housing, health and justice so they are able to recover and go on to thrive.”

At Key Unlocking Futures, we believe that with sustained commitment and investment, this strategy has the potential to drive real and lasting improvements in safety and support.
