Prepare for renting your first home
Sorting our gas and electric suppliers, knowing where to source affordable furniture, setting up regular payments, and calculating how much running a property will cost each month – moving into your first home is an exciting time with lots of new things to get to grips with.
If you are aged 18-25 and living in South Ribble, we can provide support as you move into your first home. The support will be different for each young person, and we will explore what each young person needs to settle. Your support worker will be there to encourage you each step of the way.
What do others say about our support?
"When I got my first tenancy, I was so lucky to have support from Key. I had escaped a violent relationship and was suffering from anxiety and depression from previous abuse. I struggled to interact. John started to work with me, and it was nice as he complimented me on how organised I was. Although I was managing practically, my mental health was awful. At first, I found talking to John difficult, I didn’t trust anyone, but he was really patient. He listened, and over time I started to talk to him about my struggles. I couldn’t even use the phone. John asked about my qualities. I am a caring, considerate, thoughtful person. We looked at how I could show these qualities to other people. As a result of these conversations, I gained the courage to attend a community café. I felt anxious, but I managed to talk with some of the volunteers; this is something that I would have struggled to do before. I realised that I could overcome my fears of meeting people, but it would be a slow process. John reminded me that I should push myself but at my own pace. He is helping me to build strategies so I can have a fuller life."
