Bridge The Gap

Bridge The Gap

Key Unlocking Futures is thrilled to announce that they have received £1000 from the Virgin Media 02 'Together Fund' to host a series of intergenerational afternoon tea events at The Base Community Centre in Leyland.

With this project, The Base hope to bring together some of their most vulnerable residents, older people in the local community, and young people who may be struggling to find employment.

The afternoon teas will be prepared by a group of young people and served to nominated members of the older community. Uniforms and equipment will be provided, such as bistro dining tables and chairs, table cloths and serving trays. Additionally, tiered plates, teapots and crockery will ensure a pleasant but genuine atmosphere.

Andrea Andrews, Youth & Community Worker at The Base, has been working with the local community throughout the pandemic. Andrea said: "We are so delighted to have received this money to be able to bring together special members of our Base community.

"It has been such a difficult past year for many people, and I believe this will be the start of a special relationship with our young and older members at The Base."

All those who participate in the project will be consulted about what further activities they would like to see continued or introduced as The Base and Key Unlocking Futures begin to roll out a longer-term plan for the community.

Virgin Media O2 created the Together Fund to bring communities together and create positive change for good causes.
