‘Magic Key’ is an ambitious corporate Christmas fundraising campaign asking businesses to donate to Key Unlocking Futures. The aim of the campaign is to raise much needed funds for the charity so they are able to continue helping and supporting young people experiencing homelessness throughout the festive period and beyond.

The young people Key supports are amazing and so resilient. Key will try to help them by focusing on their individual strengths and what they can do, build on their assets, rather than just focusing on their problems.
Since the pandemic, demand for Key’s drop in service for those aged between 16-25 years experiencing homelessness, has increased by around 100%. The reasons people become homeless are often extremely complex but some of the known reasons young people have disclosed in the past, are poor mental health, poverty, addiction, disability, sexual orientation, domestic abuse. Many young people have said they feel safer on the streets than they do at home. Young people are now 40% more likely to be suffering from poor mental health.

Key are asking businesses to sponsor the charity so they can continue to support young people in Lancashire with a safe roof, food, clothing, and showering facilities. A safe place for young people to drop into where they can receive advice and support and genuine help from Key staff who will listen without judgement and offer practical support delivered in an asset based way to help them to get back on their feet. Key may also be able to provide family mediation to move them back home or where this is not possible help them to find accommodation and support and guide them during the early months of getting a tenancy. Key will help them to visualise a more positive future and to build better lives.

Key Charity has been supporting people across Lancashire for over 25 years. Key do not turn anyone away or put a time limit on how long they work with people. Key's delivery approach is asset based. This means they focus on an individual’s strengths and needs, build relationships focusing on the person, not a problem. Any funds raised through the Magic Key Christmas campaign will be used to support the work of Key including The Base community centre.
