Parent and carer peer support
Parent and carer peer support
Supporting YOU to support your young person with their mental health and wellbeing.
Parenting has its ups and downs, and it can be reassuring to know that you’re not facing them alone. Our parent and carer peer support groups provide a safe, friendly and supportive space — both online and in-person—where you can connect with others who understand your experiences.
What is peer support?
Peer support is a research-backed initiative, and a powerful tool which has been shown to:
- Reduce stress and isolation
- Boost confidence and resilience
- Enhance well-being
- Improve relationships
Peer support connects people with shared experiences to offer emotional, social and practical support. For parents and carers, this means having a space to talk openly with others who truly understand some of the challenges unique to being a parent. It’s a way to share experiences, offer encouragement, and learn from one another in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.
Because when you feel supported, you can better support your young person.
What to expect when you join
Led by parents and carers with lived experience and supported by professionals, these groups provide:
- A supportive community of people who "get it"
- A safe, confidential space to share experiences and strategies, resources and advice. Share as much or as little as you feel comfortable.
- Guidance from professionals to help you navigate challenges and point you in the direction of further support.
- A focus on your well-being, as well as your young person’s. Caring for a young person is demanding. These groups also offer space to focus on your emotional health and resilience.
Is this for me?
If you’re supporting a young person with their mental health and well-being, you don’t have to do it alone, these groups are for you. You don’t need a diagnosis for your child, and you don’t need to be in crisis to attend. Whether you’re looking for advice, emotional support, or just a space to connect with others who understand, you are welcome!
How and when do the groups meet?
Our groups meet at various locations across Central Lancashire on a regular basis and we offer in-person and online support. Whether you prefer to join from home or meet in person, there’s a group that works for you.
Alongside these offerings we also provide one to one support as needed.
