Parent and Carer Support

Supporting YOU to support your young person with their mental health and wellbeing

Parenting can feel overwhelming, especially when your child is struggling with their mental health. You don't have to face this alone.

As part of Key's commitment to supporting families across Lancashire, our peer support groups bring together parents and carers who share similar experiences of supporting children and young people facing emotional health challenges.

These groups are part of project know as Peer Advice to Transform Health and  wellbeing (PATH)

Who This Support Is For

Parents and carers supporting children and young people experiencing:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Low mood and depression
  • Self-harm behaviours
  • Sleep problems and nightmares
  • Obsessions and compulsions (OCD-type behaviours)
  • Neurodevelopmental differences and associated challenges

You don't need a diagnosis for your child, and you don't need to be in crisis to attend. Whether you're looking for advice, emotional support, or just connection with others who understand, you're welcome.

What Makes Peer Support Different

Real Understanding

Unlike professional advice sessions, these are spaces where you meet other parents who truly understand what you're going through. There's something powerful about hearing someone say "I know exactly what you mean" or "I feel that way too."

Parent-Led Approach

You are the expert on your own family. Groups are led by parents and carers, with experienced facilitators who hold the space and invite professionals to share expertise when helpful.

Research-Backed Benefits

Peer support is proven to:

  • Reduce stress and feelings of isolation
  • Build confidence in your parenting
  • Improve your own wellbeing and resilience
  • Strengthen family relationships through shared strategies

What to Expect

Safe, informal spaces where parents and carers can:

  • Share experiences without fear of judgment
  • Learn practical strategies that have worked for other families
  • Feel less alone by connecting with others on similar journeys
  • Give and receive support - everyone has something valuable to offer
  • Build lasting connections with families in your community

These aren't therapy sessions or parenting classes - they're genuine peer connections where your experience matters and your voice is heard.
