The Base on Broadfield

Real Stories from Our Community

"I always feel treated with warmth and respect when I come to The Base. I have suffered a lot with my mental health and there have been times when I have been in hospital for this. When I came home from hospital last time I found a letter from the team at The Base. They had sent it when they had been worried that they hadn't seen me for a little while. This letter meant the world to me. People had thought and noticed that I wasn't around and cared enough to reach out. I am proud that I am going to give back and be part of the team at The Base." - Jo, community member

Your community hub in the heart of Leyland

Welcome to The Base - Key's community centre serving the Broadfield estate and surrounding areas in Leyland.

We're here at the very heart of the community, providing support that local people have identified they want and need. Our approach is simple: we're committed to community engagement, never judging anyone who walks through our doors, and never promising anything we can't deliver.

This year we supported over 1,400 residents, powered by an incredible community of volunteers contributing 10,000+ hours - equivalent to 5 full-time staff.

What Makes The Base Special

We see everyone as part of our community. Whether you're struggling with the cost of living, dealing with addiction, caring for family members, or simply need someone to talk to - you'll find a warm welcome here without any judgment.

Community-powered support - our 27 active volunteers work alongside dedicated staff who understand that sometimes people just need someone to listen and believe in them.

Flexible, person-centered approach - we adapt to what each person needs, whether that's practical help, emotional support, or just a safe space to be yourself.
